Major update for C&C Generals

C&C Generals Mod is a free-to-use game utility developed by modder sgtmyers88 and powered by moddb. In this custom add-on for the real-time strategy game Command & Conquer: Generals, bugs and glitches from the original game are fixed while gradually implementing upgrades to the visual effects. It improves environments and maps, as well as the unit and building animations over them–creating what’s basically an unofficial remaster of the classic game.

If you’re in the mood to revisit Command and Conquer with C&C Generals Mod, you might also want to check out the Shockwave Mod and the Reborn Mod.

An unofficial remaster

The first thing players would notice with the C&C Generals Mod is how it upgrades the overall graphics. First, it renders all maps with higher resolution, making details crisper and the overall game experience a lot better. A great detail that the developers took the time to work on is the water. All water effects are made more realistic and even calming to look at depending on the map.

For players who also experienced lagging or delays with the original game, this game also works on that by optimizing the shaders and textures that also improve the interactions and response times between assets. It also adds new details to the maps, making them more detailed and immersive–from shrubberies to rock formations. Lastly, there are welcome changes done to the Skirmish AI, making them more challenging.

However, while it makes great strides in terms of graphics and performance, it’s important to note that the content does not apply to all modes and maps of the game. Additionally, certain features are only available upon activating certain settings. Without their prerequisites, some features don’t work. The safest bet, still, is to turn the entirety of the mod since it’s optimized and shouldn’t be heavy on your system.

Revisit your C&C Generals

Overall, C&C Generals Mod is definitely a good addition to your Command & Conquer game experience, even providing enough incentive for you to revisit the classic strategy game. It works on everything graphics-related, from environment textures and shaders to additional shrubberies and rock formations, and even working on how water appears and behaves. The only drawback here is the complex pattern with which features work together. Still, it’s highly recommended.
